DarkDaze prints

We've all had a really hectic time since the festival kicked off and have not really been on top of things regarding the distribution of the DarkDaze prints. As a result and in an attempt to redeem ourselves for not being superhuman enough to be in many places at once, we have today dropped 4 of the prints of at the following locations. Vivid Design & Print - Sydney Street, Ink'd Gallery - North Road, Komedia Cafe/box office - Gardener Street and RPRZNT - Church Street. Rubbish clues we know but our heads hurt, we're all really tired and can't really come up with anything better. Be good people and get yourselves down to those locations to collect your free prints. Ask the respective shop/gallery/cafe keepers nicely and you're sure to be rewarded. Pics of which ones you're looking for are below.

Also if you come down to 'Frieze Box' outside the library in Jubilee Square you'll be able to pick up another of the set. Just ask one of the BHHF volunteers.

The remaining prints will be released later in the week.

All the best

Update

Apologies for our infrequent reporting of what's been going on with the festival. We've all been running around like headless chickens chasing our tail feathers in an effort to keep the rescued festival events on track.

Frieze Box has been going well despite the attempts of the heavens trying to scare us off with frequent bursts of rain. So far we've enjoyed the skills of MNKY. Ashab, Snub, Sinna, MN, Word To Mother, Alfa, Dan Lish, Req and Foundry. The box is going to be outside the Brighton Central Library in Jubilee Square (weather permitting) every day until Sat 14 July. There's more great artists to come so come down and check it out.

Friday night we had the one Fresh Styles film screening that we managed to save. The Graffiti Night Special. A series of shorts and promos were followed by Style Wars Revisited and Bombin, before the almo0st full house was treated to an exclusive Q&A session with the legendary Duro CIA who flew in especially for the festival from NYC.

The next day some of Europe's best graffiti crews descended upon Brighton's New England Quarter to join Duro in painting just over 100m of the building site hoardings.

On Sunday we had the amazing Battle Jam. A whole day of excellence in all the physical elements of Hip Hop. We had crews from all over the UK and some artists from as far as Japan and Australia showed up to demonstrate their skills.
Across the board all the performances were very high and the atmosphere was positively charged. Big thanks go to Spencer and the Born To Rock crew for organising and hosting the event so well.

So all in all it's been a pretty hectic time for our small but dedicated team of volunteers who have been there every step of the way. So mucho thanks go out to them.

We'll put some photos up as soon as we get more than 5 minutes to spare.

Thanks also to all the people who have attended the events so far and shown their support for the festival.

LIVE DAY - CANCELLED

Brighton Hip Hop Festival
The UK’s largest celebration of Hip Hop culture
LIVE DAY - CANCELLED

Launched in 2004, the Brighton Hip Hop Festival (BHHF) is the UK’s largest celebration of Hip Hop Culture. Over the past three years the two-week festival has gone from strength to strength and is recognised as a must attend event for all Hip Hop enthusiasts across the globe, as well as anyone with an interest in the many art forms that are comprised within Hip Hop culture.

Organised by KALA PHOOL, a multi-arts diversity led development agency, BHHF exists as ‘not for profit’ to celebrate the richness, strength and diversity of Hip Hop Culture.

However, in light of the 4th BHHF having its funding cut weeks before the main programme was due to start, the team have had to work tirelessly to gain generous support from the following: The Sussex Black Police Association, Brighton & Hove City Council – Redemption Song, Chris Gilbert, oneofakind (Guernsey), Don’t Panic Media, 4 Print & Design, Ink-d Gallery, Richard Nutbourne - Coolflight Ltd, Flint Hire & Supply Ltd, Johnstone’s Leyland Decorating Centre, Face Media Group, Concorde2, Pure Mint Recordings, Juice FM 107.9, Radio Reverb, www.pyroradio.com, Latest 7 and The Argus. Without the financial and logistical support from these organisations many of our events would not be taking place.

Despite spending the past 3 weeks furiously fundraising to bring the programme to you, we are unfortunately having to cancel our largest and most significant event, the BHHF LIVE DAY. It was due to take place on Saturday 14 July as a free, outdoor and accessible event to showcase the vast talent in UK Hip Hop. Unfortunately due to the lack of funding support and the short time we’ve had to rescue the event we’ve been forced to make this decision. Not only will 100’s of UK artists lose out but, the future of this particular event is also in question.

Thank you to those who have made the effort to wish us well and to voice your ongoing support of BHHF. My team and I look forward to your continued support at the remainder of the events.
BHHF07 is running from Saturday 30 June through to and including Saturday 14 July.

Visit www.bhhf.org for full information on all the events listed including times, venues, entry fee and much more.

We look forward to seeing you at what we know is going to be a unified BHHF07.

Dark Daze - Ltd Edition print 1 of 9

The first of these very limited edition prints is out in a secret central Brighton location now. 9 prints in total will be released throughout Brighton Hip Hop Festival for you to collect. Find them all, then piece them together to reveal a tenth image made up from the reverse of each print. Decipher the clue below and then get along to the location to collect your FREE print.

The central Brighton location of Print #1 is an anagram of:

DIRE RANK

Once you've solved this incredibly difficult puzzle get down there, ask nicely and you will be rewarded, but be quick as there's a limited number available. Strictly one print per person.

BHHF Fundraiser 1st July 3-11pm Concorde2

Since getting the no funding news, we've been working tirelessly to salvage what we can of our programmed events. Part of this effort is in the form of a fundraiser.
Brighton's Concorde2 have generously given us their venue on Sunday 1st July to pull together some support and raise some funds to save some of the other events.

The Industry Panel event which was due to take place on Thursday 28th June will now be incorporated into the fundraiser day, which will be blessed with perfomances from some of the UK finest Hip Hop artists, all of whom are getting down with the cause and waiving their fees.

Check out the line up, tell your friends and then book your tickets for what promises to be a juicy day (3pm-11pm) of Hip Hop goodness.

If we get enough votes it'll get on telly for real and that means more people will know about the problems we and the rest of the UK arts are going through. Who knows maybe some wealthy and benevolent person will come forward and save us at the last minute.
